    The impact of organizational politics on work engagement—the mediating role of the doctrine of the mean

    IntroductionEvents Theory posits that the perception of organizational politics affects job attitudes. The purpose of this study was to answer the question: does organizational politics have a similar impact on Chinese individuals who adhere to the doctrine of the mean?MethodsWe collected survey data from 3,059 library personnel in 36 Chinese university libraries and conducted analysis using the Analytic Hierarchy Process.ResultsThe results showed that the perception of organizational politics reduces employee work engagement. However, this impact exhibits heterogeneity. For newly recruited employees and employees aged 50 and above who are nearing retirement, the impact of organizational politics on work engagement is relatively small. Conversely, for employees aged 30–50, organizational politics has a significant negative impact. Furthermore, the doctrine of the mean moderates the impact of organizational politics on work engagement, mitigating its negative effects.DiscussionThe conclusions offer new insights into enhancing employee work motivation. The library should take more measures to safeguard employee rights to enhance work motivation

    Fuzzy matching template attacks on multivariate cryptography : a case study

    Multivariate cryptography is one of the most promising candidates for post-quantum cryptography. Applying machine learning techniques in this paper, we experimentally investigate the side-channel security of the multivariate cryptosystems, which seriously threatens the hardware implementations of cryptographic systems. Generally, registers are required to store values of monomials and polynomials during the encryption of multivariate cryptosystems. Based on maximum-likelihood and fuzzy matching techniques, we propose a template-based least-square technique to efficiently exploit the side-channel leakage of registers. Using QUAD for a case study, which is a typical multivariate cryptosystem with provable security, we perform our attack against both serial and parallel QUAD implementations on field programmable gate array (FPGA). Experimental results show that our attacks on both serial and parallel implementations require only about 30 and 150 power traces, respectively, to successfully reveal the secret key with a success rate close to 100%. Finally, efficient and low-cost strategies are proposed to resist side-channel attacks

At present, cross, penetration and integration between basic courses are the key to improve the quality of teaching and the overall quality of students. University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) combines "circuit analysi" and "fundamentals of analog circuits" as one course "electronic circuit", the curriculum reform follows the principles of strengthening the foundation, updating the structure, penetrating the interdisciplinary and simplifying the courses. This paper discusses the principles and ideas of reforms related to the "electronic circuit": the results show that the teaching can broaden the knowledge and vision of students, as a result, the students can better adapt to the requirements of learning and challenge of the new era

    Depth Completion with Multiple Balanced Bases and Confidence for Dense Monocular SLAM

    Dense SLAM based on monocular cameras does indeed have immense application value in the field of AR/VR, especially when it is performed on a mobile device. In this paper, we propose a novel method that integrates a light-weight depth completion network into a sparse SLAM system using a multi-basis depth representation, so that dense mapping can be performed online even on a mobile phone. Specifically, we present a specifically optimized multi-basis depth completion network, called BBC-Net, tailored to the characteristics of traditional sparse SLAM systems. BBC-Net can predict multiple balanced bases and a confidence map from a monocular image with sparse points generated by off-the-shelf keypoint-based SLAM systems. The final depth is a linear combination of predicted depth bases that can be optimized by tuning the corresponding weights. To seamlessly incorporate the weights into traditional SLAM optimization and ensure efficiency and robustness, we design a set of depth weight factors, which makes our network a versatile plug-in module, facilitating easy integration into various existing sparse SLAM systems and significantly enhancing global depth consistency through bundle adjustment. To verify the portability of our method, we integrate BBC-Net into two representative SLAM systems. The experimental results on various datasets show that the proposed method achieves better performance in monocular dense mapping than the state-of-the-art methods. We provide an online demo running on a mobile phone, which verifies the efficiency and mapping quality of the proposed method in real-world scenarios

    The potential value of Notch1 and DLL1 in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with active TB

    ObjectivesThe Notch signaling pathway has been implicated in the pathogenesis of active tuberculosis (TB), and Th1-type cell-mediated immunity is essential for effective control of mycobacterial infection. However, it remains unclear whether Notch signaling molecules (Notch1, DLL1, and Hes1) and Th1-type factors (T-bet and IFN-γ) can serve as biomarkers for tracking the progression of active TB at different stages along with peripheral blood white blood cell (WBC) parameters.MethodsA total of 60 participants were enrolled in the study, including 37 confirmed TB patients (mild (n=17), moderate/severe (n=20)) and 23 healthy controls. The mRNA expression of Notch1, DLL1, Hes1, T-bet and IFN-γ in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of the subjects was measured by RT-qPCR, then analyzed for differences. Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROC) was used to assess the effectiveness of each factor as a biomarker in identifying lung injury.ResultsWe found that mRNA expression levels of Notch1, DLL1, and Hes1 were upregulated in active TB patients, with higher levels observed in those with moderate/severe TB than those with mild TB or without TB. In contrast, mRNA levels of T-bet and IFN-γ were downregulated and significantly lower in mild and moderate/severe cases. Furthermore, the combiROC analysis of IFN-γ and the percentage of lymphocytes (L%) among WBC parameters showed superior discriminatory ability compared to other factors for identifying individuals with active TB versus healthy individuals. Notably, Notch pathway molecules were more effective than Th1-type factors and WBC parameters in differentiating mild and moderate/severe cases of active TB, particularly in the combiROC model that included Notch1 and Hes1.ConclusionsOur study demonstrated that Notch1, Hes1, IFN-γ, and L% can be used as biomarkers to identify different stages of active TB patients and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment

    Full-length single-cell RNA-seq applied to a viral human cancer:applications to HPV expression and splicing analysis in HeLa S3 cells

    Background: Viral infection causes multiple forms of human cancer, and HPV infection is the primary factor in cervical carcinomas Recent single-cell RNA-seq studies highlight the tumor heterogeneity present in most cancers, but virally induced tumors have not been studied HeLa is a well characterized HPV+ cervical cancer cell line Result: We developed a new high throughput platform to prepare single-cell RNA on a nanoliter scale based on a customized microwell chip Using this method, we successfully amplified full-length transcripts of 669 single HeLa S3 cells and 40 of them were randomly selected to perform single-cell RNA sequencing Based on these data, we obtained a comprehensive understanding of the heterogeneity of HeLa S3 cells in gene expression, alternative splicing and fusions Furthermore, we identified a high diversity of HPV-18 expression and splicing at the single-cell level By co-expression analysis we identified 283 E6, E7 co-regulated genes, including CDC25, PCNA, PLK4, BUB1B and IRF1 known to interact with HPV viral proteins Conclusion: Our results reveal the heterogeneity of a virus-infected cell line It not only provides a transcriptome characterization of HeLa S3 cells at the single cell level, but is a demonstration of the power of single cell RNA-seq analysis of virally infected cells and cancers
